Steller Misfits

The Telugu diaspora from Andhra Pradesh, who migrated to Bangladesh in the 1950s, mostly reside in three or four cities and surrounding districts. In Dhaka, many live in a colony near Gopibag, which is primarily occupied by cleaners and sweepers. Living as minorities in a predominantly Muslim country, Hindus and Christians among them often find themselves in lower-tier jobs. Despite these challenges, especially for the youth, their ambitions remain undeterred. In the colony, these youngsters stand out with their unique style—bright trinkets, fashionable sunglasses, and hair dyed in striking colours. This punk fashion isn't just a trend; it's a statement. They draw inspiration from South Indian movies, idolizing their favourite stars and emulating their bold looks. They seek recognition and dream of fame, eagerly awaiting applause from an imagined audience as they strive to shine in their own way.
