Nayem Ali
Nayem Ali, also known as Nayem Shaan, is currently the Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.
Before this, he worked as a visual journalist and reporter at The Business Standard, where he covered stories through photography, reporting, and writing, and led the project TBS Bites, a section known for its quick, bite-sized news.
From 2016 to May 2023, Nayem contributed as a freelance photojournalist for The Daily Star and also worked with Zuma Press in the USA, gaining international recognition for his work.
Nayem’s photography journey, which began in 2015, focuses on daily life, street scenes, and long-term documentary projects. His work has appeared in Rest of World, The Wall Street Journal, The Telegraph, The Guardian, AFP, UNICEF, DW Germany, and many more.
He holds a BBA in Marketing from East-West University, where he served as Vice-President of the East-West University Photography Club. He was selected for the Eddie Adams Workshop in 2021, and in 2023, he won first prize in the EMK-BJIM Fellowship. In 2024, he won an Honorable Mention Award in the Politics category at the Bangladesh Press Photo Contest.
