Life of Jahura Begum:
Academic head amid Pandemic
Jahura Begum (61) is the principal of Udayan Higher Secondary School, situated in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I had the privilege of being her student during my school days. She has always been uncompromising in terms of the quality of education she envisions providing to her students. Apart from her work life, she has to take care of her family consisting of 4 members. She has 2 sons, the elder one is an autistic son named Depon and the younger one is named Abrar. Her husband, Syed Omar Hossain is a retired businessman. Jahura Begum’s life has changed a lot since the pandemic struck. Her in-school activities have become more online-based, due to the Covid protocols. She has to coordinate the teachers and academic activities through online platforms as Zoom and Google Meets. She has to monitor class activities of all classes through social media platforms like Facebook and Whatsapp. Even when she has to attend the institution in person, she rarely has all the teachers and staff at her disposal, making her life as a principal more complicated than before.
